Directions – How to get to The Apple Wood

By Car

If you’re using a satellite navigation system just enter the postcode BA12 0HD.  The Apple Wood has its own postcode so it will bring you straight here.

We are accessible via the A36.

From the West: Follow the signs for Longleat and the A36 towards Salisbury. You will come to Cotley Hill Roundabout with signs to Warminster town centre and Bishopstrow. Take the turning marked A36 to Salisbury.  At 0.7 miles from the roundabout turn left on to East Hill Road. (You will see a sign for Heytesbury to turn right, East Hill Road is directly opposite on your left). As you enter East Hill Road, immediately turn left in to Apple Wood House.

From the East: Follow the signs to Longleat and the A36.  While on the A36 you will see the Hill Side Cafe and Toran with an Elephant outside to your right. You will then pass the Knook military camp. At 0.7 miles from the camp you will see a sign for Heytesbury and Tytherington to turn left. At that point turn right on to East Hill Road (if you get to the roundabout you’ve gone too far).  As you enter East Hill Road, immediately turn left in to Apple Wood House.

By Train

The nearest train station is Warminster.  Trains from here service routes to places like Southampton, Cardiff, Bristol, Portsmouth, Brighton, Salisbury and Penzance. One station along is Westbury Station from where you can connect to the majority of major cities including London. Alternatively, Bath Spa Station also does the same.

There is a taxi rank outside Warminster station which is 9 minutes from The Apple Wood.

By Air

The nearest Airports are:

  • Southampton –  42 miles, 59 minute drive
  • Bristol – 41 miles, 1 hour 3 minutes drive
  • Heathrow -81 miles, 1 hour 21 minutes drive
  • Gatwick – 107 miles, 1 hour 45 minutes

From each of these airports you can either drive using the car directions above, take the train or the bus.

By Bus

Local bus routes which stop at the Angel Inn, Heytesbury (Bottom of the hill, 0.2 miles or a 4 minute walk from The Apple Wood):

  • Number 55 Warminster – Heytesbury, Tilshead, Devizes
  • Number 265 – Heytesbury, Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge, Bath

National bus routes also operate through Warminster going with destinations to Bristol, Bath, Salisbury, Portsmouth and London.
